When it comes to your hormones, the #1 nutrient that kidney meat provides is selenium. Besides its neuroprotective properties, it is required for the manufacture and metabolism of thyroid hormones.
This absolutely necessary, yet under-appreciated mineral is needed to convert T4 to T3 as the enzymes involved are selenium-dependent. As you probably know, insufficient T3 levels often lead to hypothyroid problems. Selenium is also lauded for its role in clearing the body of excess oestrogen – an excess that can lead to endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, and other reproductive conditions.
Grass-fed beef kidney meat provides other vital nutrients as well:
- Vitamin A
- Vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12
- Phosphorus
- Zinc (another important nutrient for thyroid hormone conversion)
- Iron
- Copper

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much DAO is in beef kidney?
DAO or Histamine Degrading Units (HDU) is pointless measure in food. The only way to know true impact on DAO supplements like beef kidney extract on an individual is to test for DAO activity in serum before and within 30 minutes after taking the capsules so the DAO activated in the intestines and absorbed into the blood can be evaluated for efficacy. The higher the increase in the DAO in serum after taking a supplement the better. Serum test is measured by change in HDU/ml per mg of supplement.
There are some porcine histamine supplements that use pork kidney and make claims of having 4.2mg DAO or equivalent of 10,000 histamine degrading units (HDU) per capsule. This is nonsense.
Without the scientific measure in blood serum the only practical test is how a person taking the supplement feels and reacts after taking the supplement and consuming histamine rich foods or drinks.
Nxgen Beef Kidney requires taking 2-4 capsules 15 mins before food. The quantity depends on the individual and amount of histamine in the meal or beverage.
Unfortunately all beef kidney supplements are not going to be the same quality. DAO is heat sensitive and many companies pay other companies to freeze dry beef kidney and so have no idea of the highest drying temperature reached.
Active DAO in beef kidney is important as are the combined vitamins and cofactors that work in synergy to produce DAO. These vitamins include B6, B12, Zinc, copper and iron, all of which are highly bioavailable in beef kidney.
Beware of unnecessary synthetic vitamins like acetic acid and additives like sucrose and other ingredients like glycerol, shellac and hydrated magnesium silicate.
NXGEN Beef Kidney Capsules are used and trusted by leading health professionals and contain 500mg of pure beef kidney protein extract with no other ingredients.
